The internet can be accessed from many devices, from smartphones to tablets, computers and games consoles. The internet provides a lot of opportunities for interaction with other people, not only by leaving messages on social media sites or sending emails, but also by direct interaction for example in a lot of games and video streaming services. These services can include both voice or and video transmission.

Some of these risks reflect situations in the real world also and so this policy is used in conjunction with other school policies. (Behaviour, Anti-bullying, Acceptable use and Safeguarding.) As with all risks it is impossible to eliminate them completely therefore the school has put into place measures to ensure we have done everything that could reasonably be expected of us to manage and reduce these risks.

We have structured our computing curriculum to align with the national curriculum where digital literacy, coding and information technology are key themes. We have developed the digital literacy aspect in school to incorporate 8 key aspects of staying safe online.

These aspects have been taken from the 'Education for a connected world' document.

Each aspect is taught at every level through school, using real life contexts for the children to apply what they have learnt. Each of these aspects should prepare the children for how to behave on line in all circumstances.

This teaching is also complimented with our PSHE SCARF programme, where children further develop their awareness of E safety. As a school we ensure that this teaching is mapped out and we timetable such events as the internet safety week. E safety is not something that will be successful when taught alone, or in isolation, so in our policy it is clear that e safety is dropped into all lessons where appropriate.

In school we have an E awareness committee who lead assemblies and develop understanding within their peers and also the whole school community.
